Stolen...

Look at this!!! One of the photos we took for Xenotees was (unknowingly) snatched off her website and used as the stock photo for picture frames! A friend of mine sent me the image and asked why my boys were in her brand new frame (from a well-known nation-wide bookstore chain). We couldn't believe it!!! Isn't that bizarre? So we went to the store and bought a frame of our very own to put up in the house. Kind of ridiculous that we paid for something that was ours to begin with, but it was too good of a story to pass up.
And to the sneaks who stole our photo: Well, I would like some of those royalties, but I can't blame you for the theft. Look at those handsome guys, I'd steal their picture too if they weren't already mine to look at everyday. :)

This was the original image.

  1. That is craziness! And I'm sure it must be illegal. However, those two handsome men of yours must be making that company oodles, because the photo is just too sweet!

  4. I know you're probably not up to the hassle of suing, but I took a legal issues in photography class and if you called the company up, they'll probably give you some money just to avoid the trouble.

  7. I think I've commented before--but if not, love your shop!

Anywho, I went into our local Wal-Mart once to pick up some photos I had developed, and sitting on the counter was a large and unexpected picture of my husband and me. They had converted it to b/w, blown it up to 8x10 size, framed it and decorated around it. It was like a little shrine to us! The girl behind the counter said they had thought it was such a great picture, and if we let them display it for a few weeks they'd give it to us free. It was flattering and creepy all at once. But hey, free framed picture!

However that was only one local store -- not a whole national chain! Wowzer. I hope they reimburse you somehow. That would be sweet!

  12. HelloCorrie- I had a similar experience on Ebay and told Ebay about it but unless that photo is still on display in Xenotees store you can do nothing, however if she is still using it you can! that is what the legals said at Ebay. I had about 30 images stolen and the idiot is still selling them on a disc as we speak.. i wrote him and he said I didn't own them... oh yeah.. I bought them myself. so I know if you called company that bought the frame they would give you the name of the distributor and you could get to bottom and like Cipolla says they would give you money. My oldest daughter did a photo shoot for Brides mag years ago and the used one of her and sold it to a company without her permission, I made a stink as it was published in Brides and no credit or fee was paid. They sent her $100. ITs possible but so ironic you got to see it. I say if its that big a company you should get several hundred... good luck!

    Spookily fab!

Definitely give them a call though, explain how you are a lawyer and ask to be put through to their finance team ;-)

    Good luck - Houdini
