Snow Cream

A few weeks ago the Winter Wonderland Fairy bestowed upon us a gorgeous pristine layer of snow - which also allowed me to stop complaining about dreary, dreadful, horrible winter for about 3 days. Having lived most of my life along I-10 (from Florida to Arizona and back again) I can count on one hand how many times I've witnessed snowfall. It immediately changes everything, and I declared the day a holiday. That, of course, means all rules go out the snowy window in exchange for a new, more fun set of holiday rules.
Rule #1: Eat snow cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
That's it. There are no other rules.
It was yummy. :)

I didn't use an actual recipe, but at my mom's suggestion mixed sugar and vanilla into evaporated milk until it dissolved, then stirred in the snow. (Condensed milk is good too.) I saved a bowl of snow in my freezer for a week, trying to savor it as long as possible. But it fell out the other day and dumped snow in my kitchen floor...boo.

Goodbye snow cream! See you next year!

New Item!

Garlands!

Lovey Dovey Love Me Garland: a sweet Valentine confection, and Sugar Pie Honey Bunch Garland: a mixie-matchie string of hearts.

Both serving no other purpose than to spread the love and look pretty.

(Judah is a huge fan.)

Be on the lookout for some new lovelies over the next few weeks!

The Knitty Gritty

During Christmas break, my mother-in-law and I spent a morning learning how to knit from a sweet neighbor who offered us her day, coffee & breakfast, and supplies. The technique itself was easier than I thought - and I even remembered how to stitch upon returning home. But stitching pretty is another story. "Hiccups" can be seen all throughout my work, creating a very unintentional and irregular pattern. As our instructor Dana would say, "Oh, that's lovely. You can see where you are learning." (She was a very patient and encouraging teacher!) All hiccups aside, it was very refreshing to learn a new craft. Just don't expect to see any knitted items on cbp-Etsy anytime soon!
I'm attempting a scarf for my first project, made from a beautiful soft blue/green cotton yarn. And at this rate, it'll be done about this time next year. :)

To: Corrie, From: Corrie

A few things I gave myself for Christmas (with present money from parents and in-laws, of course!)

Peace Moccasins
- you can never have too many pairs of moccasins, ever.
Leaf Earrings - from That Vintage (from Australia!) These made Judah all giggly at the sight - I'm not quite sure why. But when your earrings entertain a toddler, you've found a winner.
Corrieberry Pie Gloves - I found these soft Echo gloves and added the gingerale rosebuds. Now my hands are toasty and pretty.

Just thought I'd share!

An Apron For Mimi

This was for my Mother-in-law's birthday last weekend. I took a huge risk...the fruity fabric is from an old tablecloth that belonged to her Aunt Lillian, who passed away a few years ago. I thought she would either love the sentiment, or cry because I chopped up her table cloth. Fortunately, she adores it as much as I do. I'm serious, this one was hard to part with! That vintage print is so stinkin' cute, as are the polka dots from my favorite stash of Granny's Sackcloth fabrics.

* I love how it looks like I
baked for a more authentic photograph. Those are John Jay's cheese straws - they might make an appearance a little later.

Since the table cloth was originally meant for a card table, I didn't have to trim off much. I saw this bias tape tutorial a few months ago, but have only done it on small projects and pockets until now. It was really simple. The hardest part was placing those dang pockets on that uneven pattern! And who knew that aprons fold up into little self-wrapped presents?! Bonus.

* I used extra wide double fold bias tape in "sea glass" green.

Happy Birthday Mimi!

The birthday girl, at her impromptu Starbucks birthday party. And there's my hand at the bottom left, clinging to a triple grande 2% latte...I miss you Starbucks. I wish we could be together every day.

I Saw Santa's What!?!?!

I made these ornaments for our siblings this year. Our humor is much more grown up now that we're "adults".

Brown Bag Special

In keeping with our "Handmade or Used" gift vow, we extended that to wrapping paper, and made use of the enormous pile of Whole Foods bags taking over our pantry. Paint and ribbon fancied them up just enough to stay away from the lunch sack look.
The only downfall...packing tape. The regular stuff just wouldn't hold. So they're only pretty from the front - like those old ladies who fix the front of their hair, but the back has that lovely slept-on bald spot. Tell me when mine does that, okay?
